Paris to Lima

Sometimes when you are in an airport, with all the noise and bright lights and people, you just need a breather! That's the time to look up. Those terminals are a feat of engineering that most people take for granted. As we stood on the airbridge in CDG, I just tok a moment to take it all in - the number of services that were needed for just one plane! Three terminals, a whole infrastructure, hundreds of thousands of passengers and all progressing smoothly. I had a vision of a puppeteer somewhere above us pulling all the strings.

Enough already! Our flight to Lima took 11 hours. I watched the new French film of The Count of Monte Christo. That accounted for 3 hours 😉 My Book Club friends will remember the tome: a 1180 page door-stopper! Great film, even if the subtitles were sketchy.

Airport architecture

Lima is a riot of senses! First impressions are unfortunate, as the main route into the city goes through the deprived neighbourhood of Callao. In a city of 12 million people, 1 million live in Callao. So roughly the population of Dublin in a slum. It doesn't help either that the air quality is dire. The few trees that manage to grow in the area are almost black with smut.

But we're staying in the lovely Miraflores. My next report will be more positive.
